Moon Runner loped through the Rise’s forest like a white specter.
In her jaws was a plump shrew. A tasty morsel.
She scented the air.
Where has Wealda [@Redd] hidden Chipmunk [@Ruckus]? her spirit wondered until she detected a trace of a familiar aroma.
She arrived at a place where the forest floor was covered in dry pine needles and called out with a gentle whuff.

She had not sickened in the way the others had. Wealda had not known to fear this as dire, nor did she know how such illness traveled, but caution slowly eased as time went. She continued to monitor the lands for the Berserker’s return.
@Ruckus was a constant shadow. She bore his presence patiently, showed him the borders and the breadth of the rise, allowed him to meet others within it. Their numbers were smaller than they had been.
Her wounds festered, then slowly began to heal as her body fought this less-deadly form of infection. It was not enough to cause more than increased discomfort. She ignored it as best she could, and when the itch became overwhelming, water soothed it.
This was where she was when Moon Runner found them. Her eyes had been following Ruckus as they explored the bank, but now her attention turned and she let out a low sound of welcome. She hoped such a sound would entice her new ward to be more comfortable in the company of a packmate, a signal that this was one to be trusted.

Wealda welcomed Moon Runner’s presence, and so she approached with a kind face and curved body characteristic of appasement. She could see that Chipmunk was a bit more curious than before, but still dubious of the Trēow.
She masticated the shrew into a pulp and then offered it to the wee bairn, hoping the act of sharing food would help architect their bond.
Then, she licked the long edge of Wealda’s strong jaw.
How are you? Her spirit asked as she gently snuffled at her leader’s tawny furs, as if asking permission to groom them.
Then, Moon Runner settled down besides Wealda and Chipmunk and enjoyed the moment.
