inkalorë searched the spine with purpose in their stride, stopping for no one except the wolf they were looking for. they wanted to talk to vairë (@Sabah) — about how nice it was to be home, about how their fears had sort of come true. they didn't understand why the loners had come and done such mean things to their village. it wasn't fair. but they didn't like seeing the hard look that crept over the features of the adults when they were thinking about what happened, so they didn't think to talk to mom or any other adult about it. instead they sought their sister, who was far less intimidating when she was upset.

Vairë was right.

She didn’t want to be. But she was, the point remained despite her wish it hadn’t. It made her stiff legged, made her want to choke, cry, scream, do something to prevent it, but aside from screeching at every wolf to ever enter their territory ever, she had no clues.

Her face was screwed into a grimace, but fawn child was still at what she was doing. She’d found a deer skull, half buried in the snow and dirt, and despite the unyielding frozen ground, she didn’t give up, methodically scraping dirt away from gleaming white bone. It helped her not think about…everything.

when inkalorë finally found their sister, she was digging. specifically, digging up a weird looking bone. it almost looked like a deer head, but all bony. that was unexpected, but ink wasn't discouraged. quite the opposite, in fact; they loved digging! and they loved new things even more! without a word, the star-child set about helping vairë, careful to position their own digging so that it would not impede hers.
