for @C’ede’ Ghatggehi! continued from here <3
c’ede’s puppy teeth tore furious at the dark pelt of his father. tail thumped dully on the sand behind kusax̱asaa; he smiled in spite of himself, lowering his broad muzzle to flash much larger teeth, a growl rumbling through the fibers of his son's being.
and there before the boy, kusax̱asaa faltered in expression. anguish swam to fore on his face, for three pieces of the spirit he had given were lost to him, and he felt the pierce to his soul keenly.
some hours the struggle grew so great within himself that almost he went back. yet this for now meant certain death. the saatsine had traveled a gigantic distance and washed their feet in countless rivers, lakes, creeks, streams — sun ghosts.
lips twitched as he returned to himself, to his son, and now he sought to nudge the boy over onto his side. "del yaen' 'unse dilta'."
the chieftain had a responsibility to all of sun clan; it did not change the pain of remembering caan's cry nor fa'liya's disappearance. and he had simply never seen ghe'naya again.
her face he did not allow himself. not yet. not when such anger would fill kusax̱asaa before the eyes of his son. his son. his son.

does his father know? that he is c'ede's whole world.
the charcoal-bitten pup laughs, a bubbly sound infectious and full of joy, when he sees the smile on his dad's face. gazing with bright yellow eyes, seeing the rows of teeth that have thrashed countless and hunted limitless caribou. there is life etched into every fiber of the man's black, daunting face.
and his son does not fear any of it. he only falters when the man's face drops, into an expression he'd seen before but never quite been faced with before. c'ede's own mimics his; natural reaction, brows pulling downwards and his great smile drooping to a frown.
he whines. but it does not last for long, because before he knows it, he has been barreled over by the snout of the father. c'ede' laughs yet again, reaching with large, fumbling paws to grasp at his face and bite viciously at his nose and mouth.
tugging at his lips, mustering the most ferocious of squeaks and growls he possibly could at this fragile age. he feels the baritone voice rumble against him. invigorating, exciting. he does not stay collapsed upon his side before long, staggering to lanky legs and pulling himself up onto hindlegs and grappling with his father's towering form.

"ta'. sta'," kusax̱asaa gently corrected, even as his heart surged through the agonies with something raw, something more primal: the ferocious adoration of parent to child.
it was the fault of the man who had been cen that he had experienced little of this with ghelan. but he remembered ghaden lying in gheli's arms, and how for such a tiny sunlit time he had known a father's first joy.
it came again, elbowing itself insistently between the harrowing angst and hateful simmer which tried to dominate kusax̱asaa's thoughts. another smile. "sii'ae," he said at last. "unhk'enaey."
there was a horrid tightness in his throat.
"caan. fa'liya. ghe'naya. unhk'enaey. unhk'enaey. unhk'enaey."
these words meant nothing to c'ede' for now, and his father understood such. yet a power was in repetition, for one day the pale ears would listen, and all that kusax̱asaa meant to impress upon his child would come to life in the young soul.

the sand clung to his fur, to the soft insides of his ears, to his belly where he’d been knocked so unceremoniously over.
back on his feet, all wobbly limbs and wide paws, biting and pawing and growling like a stormcloud pup.
he presses close to him. bumping his head to the warmth of the dark fur.
he didn’t know the word. but it made the pup happy to mimic his father.

un…ke-nay,he tried, lips fumbling, voice uncertain. then stronger, eyes bright,
unkh’enaey!
he didn’t know the word. but it made the pup happy to mimic his father.
