The winged hunter released the tattered remains of its kill. Samani watched them fall to her, dangling morbidly from her lean frame. She turned and pulled the bits away – a string of red with very little meat on it. The moon child sniffed cautiously at it before she determined it was no harm to her. She licked at the bloody bits and then drew her gaze back to the pale hunter who sat overhead.

Samani wished to speak to the bird, but she was not certain it could talk. She also did not want to disturb it and make it leave. After all, it had hunted successfully and had shared the blood of its kill with her. The young girl believed that it had been a rather special moment. She would tell her mother of the animal later.

The moon child bowed down, wagging her tail. Would the pale hunter take flight again?
