The moon child watched with wonder as the white hunter spread its wings. It was unlike anything she’d ever seen before. Grace embodied, the white owl swooped down. Samani did not shy away from it, though the hunter’s talons caught her eye. The moon child could not help herself. She watched intently, unable to pull her gaze away from the magnificent creature.

It swooped and then rose, white into blinding light.

Samani watched, squinting her eyes against the glimmer of the light. She was losing sight of it. The child trotted in the direction she had watched, eyes trained to the heavens. The owl had likely ventured to hunt on other grounds. The moon child did not wish to say goodbye, not yet.

She would chase the ground beneath the owl for as long as her legs would allow it.
