Suzu seemed to bobble on the cusp between survival and demise, though she’d begun to recover a bit more from the trauma of birth more recently and had just begun to maintain her weight. She was still much smaller than her thriving siblings, but she survived nonetheless.

Her eyes had opened, but her vision was terrible. The light hurt her eyes so she often kept her muzzle buried in her guardian’s fur. 

Whenever the light dimmed in mid day, it meant someone new had come. Theo had been sitting in the threshold, but she heard his curious coo. Wondering who it was that was coming to visit now, she too uttered a soft, vaguely interested noise.
