the sound out of the little creature was something unholy! Redbird recoiled from it immediately, having never heard it before; and while the little thing retreated she felt no urge to chase it, despite it being prey.

she was at war with the impulse to plunge inside the palace and find Colt, but the thing had called out so loudly, surely someone would come and find Redbird here!

immediately the girl turned and bolted the other way. She would be back! She had to get Colt out of this place -- but hell no, she wasn't going to stick around for whatever that little critter summoned!
