Porcupine Ridge i've seen a million different doors on the horizon

this scent didn’t belong to the prey items pakasqa knew. she sniffed warily at a ribbon of snow where it hung thick, eyes meeting hex’s and stepping back as he investigated. 

in time she would learn that scent belonged to a mountain lion; it had already vacated that cold region, and for that they were both lucky. 

she nosed at another set of tracks and found evidence of mountain hare. this was a fresher set, and far easier chased. 

with her tail bobbing, the girl set into the woods with hex in tow  — two spirits that would eat well that night.
