The man was handsome, though Valiant couldn't tell until they were a conversational distance from each other. He didn't outwardly react, and unlike Ludovic, did not clock that he immediately liked the man just a little bit more.

"We are," he agreed. "A white elk passed through here not long ago — I need the pelt off it, so there'll be plenty of meat to share."

At the question about Ludovic, Valiant tried his best not to appear startled. He was pleased, in fact, by the assumption. "He sure is," Valiant replied, his tail wheeling, leaving which question he was answering rather ambiguous. "This is Ludovic. My name's Valiant. What's yours, partner?"

He nudged Ludovic with his hip, offering encouragement. The male seemed friendly enough, and Valiant no longer felt the need to guard the boy too carefully.
