It did not take them long to find the herd. Valiant spotted the elk they were looking for a moment after Beau pointed it out. They hung back for a long moment, watching, before Valiant gestured for them to move away from the herd.

"I don't see the bull right now, but I can smell him," he said to his two companions in a low voice. "We gotta get her separated from the others if we don't wanna tangle with him. Let's go in, see if we can get a bleed on her, and try and herd her toward Moonglow."

He turned his attention more fully to Ludo.

"I want you to stay away from their hooves, alright?" he said to the boy, more command than question. "'Specially if the bull shows up. Be aware of your surroundings — just get outta there if he sets his sights on you. Those antlers can run a wolf straight through. Once we get the white elk separated, and get her tired out a bit, we can see about having you practice hamstringin' her."

He looked between the two, waiting for their input.
