Derg, restless as ever, lay at the den entrance, watching the stars through the trees.
Only just behind him, Arlette and their children slept in a big warm bundle.
Snarls and yips could be heard in the distance - the other side of the territory to Derg. He wasn't bothered about coyotes or foxes trying their luck, a patrol would get them out.
Yet when Nyra's howl shuddered the trees, he was up instantly.
Derg looked back at his family, "Stay," he softly commanded so if they didn't wake to the call they wouldn't be woken then.

He took off through the trees, following familiar paths to reach the Titaness' call.
Loners, five, all weak and disorganised. 
He approached, trying to pick his target as Nyra barreled in. He chose one, launched at it just as it had too locked onto him.
He sought to grip its throat but the attack was cut short with a counter-attack to his scruff.
Derg wrenched away, snarling and circling, waiting to make the next move, blood already coating his tongue. This would be quick. He kept his eyes worrying over the other assailants, ensuring he wasn't going to get 2v1.
