It wasn't frenzied, or warm, or careful; it was a necessity. It happened - that was all. If there was enjoyment from the act then Sanja had blocked it out - likewise, the deeper implications of what she'd given away would not become apparent until much later, when she was alone to think, to feel properly.

They separated - he was in the lead. Sanja was dizzy and slow to follow, but she did follow, and she watched the man move as if he belonged here.

The woman was out of breath behind him. The entire endeavor had left her skin and her brain buzzing with dissonance; there, in the shadows, a branch lifted awkwardly from the trees.

Not a branch, she corrected herself, and looked to the golden man wreathed by her own musk.
