All Welcome
The forest she leads them to isn't particularly impressive, really — and it seems to take forever to get there, slowed as she is by her injuries. She tries not to think about them too much, though, and it seems to work well enough. But when the wind shifts and she catches a hint of the metallic tang to her own scent, she can't help but grimace slightly, imagining how she must look and smell to other wolves. Gross, for sure.
She's about to turn to @Derg and suggest that they head back, already feeling tired even though they've just arrived, but something catches her eye. It seems to blend with the snow partially-covering it at first, but as she parts from her companion's side to inspect the object more closely, the shape of it becomes more apparent. It's a skull. A wolf skull. She leans forward and plucks it from the snow without hesitation, spinning around with her discovery held high. Look what I found! She says, voice muffled but clearly proud.

Derg followed the girl, holding himself large and tall, alert. His ears cupped and tilted to and fro to catch any and all sounds. He didn't want their first trip out to end in disaster and he was her protector, not taking the responsibility he'd put on himself lightly.

They arrived at a woodland, a place that wasn't bright or happy. A place that wasn't about to claw them out of its arms. A neutral wood that let whoever wander through as they wished as long as they didn't poke too hard at it.
He was happy to stay for a bit, perhaps rest a short while in the shelter and get back before the brewing storm caught them out. He didn't want to drag the poor girl home through wind, snow, and ice.
He watched Keen investigate the woods, doing his own investigation for a short while. That was until she called out with pride, causing him to turn and his eyes widened in shock.
A skull. Canine.
He fought the urge to snarl at her to drop it instantly feeling the air gush from his chest from an invisible blow.

He opened his mouth to talk but nothing comes to mind to speak. He gapes like a fish for a few moments before closing his mouth and sitting down, head tilting in a what the fuck Keen type of way.
All he'd known was to not disturb rested bones, he didn't believe in ghosts but he believed in bad luck and this was it if he ever saw it.
"A skull." He finally murmured. Well, if Keen had disturbed the head then why not the fuck dig up the rest? They might as well take it home and present the whole skeleton to Wintersbane, though he supposed the man would be opposed. So Derg laughed and stood, taking steps towards the nieve girl,  "Let's find the rest then."  He knew they wouldn't take a skeleton home but supposed he wouldn't force Keen to leave the skull behind if she so wanted to keep it.

Her expression falls slightly when she registers Derg's expression, and as he gapes at her she wonders if she's done something wrong. It doesn't strike her as a problem at all; whoever had owned the skull is obviously dead now, so surely they won't mind. She lowers the skull slowly when her companion sits down, carefully placing it in the snow despite her reluctance to part with the prize even for a moment. But before she can ask what's wrong, she hears a murmur from Derg, and then he's rising with a laugh. Relief washes over her, and his suggestion brings a smile to her features.
I wonder if it's even here, She says softly, glancing around the forest as if she might see the skeleton lying atop the snow in plain sight. She knows enough to know that predators and scavengers alike often drag bits and pieces of corpses away, sometimes a short distance and sometimes a very great one — but she sort of hopes they can find the skeleton. She probably can't keep that, but she's definitely keeping the skull. She leans down to grab the skull again and place it against a tree, feeling a little possessive over it, and turns back to Derg with eyes bright. I don't think it was with the skull. Where should we start looking?

The man nosed about a little, "My bet is for it to be under the snow." He started to dig a small way away from where she pulled up the skull, knowing that bones got moved about, often a lot, once the corpse lay there.

"It doesn't seem fresh enough to be buried in the snow, I would've thought there'd be more evidence if so." He explained himself, knowing that his information could one day be valuable to the girl. Especially if she happened to search for his body one day.
He pushed the cold thought from his mind, starting to effectively shovel the thin layer of snow out of the way then started scratching down into the soil. He didn't want Keen to overexert herself of course so he put almost maximum effort into his work, hoping to sate her inquiries about who lay here.Perhaps he'd find himself intrigued about the death of this wolf too.

She follows Derg's example without hesitation, though her own digging is tentative and slow. The movement hurts, but she tries to focus on her companion's words rather than the pain lancing through her with each move. It only takes a few minutes for her to stop with a soft Ouch!
She draws one paw away from the ground, licking a little desperately at the tiny cut on her pad as blood wells up around the wound. Her attention doesn't linger on it for long, of course. Her gaze is soon drawn back to the hole she'd dug, ears perking as she peers down at it and tentatively reaches with her other paw to clear away more snow and dirt. Another bone, she realizes, though this time she's not sure what body part it is. She leans down to fit her teeth around the exposed part, tugging fiercely at it — but it won't quite come. She huffs, frustrated, and renews her efforts after a moment; unfortunately, the bone decides to loosen just then, and the sudden change sends her stumbling backwards with the bone. She falls back onto her haunches with another huff, dropping it into the snow and taking a moment to catch her breath. Yanking the bone from where it was lodged had been fun, but... it'd hurt, too, and she finds herself in need of a few seconds to recover.

His ears perked at her signal of pain, immediately stopping to cast his worried gaze over her. She licked at her paw so, it surely wasn't the lacerations to her neck that had troubled her. Good, he didn't want another medical emergency in the middle of nowhere again.
He took a few steps towards her, "Here let me-" He was cut off by her victory of the task; and her tumbling backward.

He appeared at her side, carefully investigating whether her wounds had broken open again, his nose snuffling through her fur. Everything seemed in place. He moved his nose to her cheek, nudging her softly, "Are you ok?" Concern was rife in his voice, as it was in his eyes.

Soon, he turned his attention to the bone she'd pulled. It seemed to be a rib, laying in all its curved crudity on the floor. He scowled at it for half a second before moving towards it, nosing along it so gather information.
"It's a rib bone. Seems to be as old as perhaps...a year or two." He cast a glance to Keen, "See, it's still smooth and the ends aren't all cracked. But what do I know," he finished with a grin. "Good job."  As he always kept to, any work done well was worthy of praise.

Derg's sudden presence at her side catches her off guard, though his gentle touch is far from unwelcome. She glances up at him with bright eyes and a hint of a reassuring smile, nodding quickly to his question. Yeah! She says, rising to her feet with her tail swishing gently. She watches Derg inspect the bone with ears perked and eyes wide, listening carefully to his explanation and wondering what must have killed the wolf. The praise sends a slight flush through her face, bringing more of a smile to her features. The expression only lasts a moment, though, before she grows more serious with her next words. Do you think — anyone misses him — or her? It's obvious the corpse hadn't been buried, scattered and haphazard as the pieces are; it'd simply been abandoned out here. Forgotten. For some reason, it makes her think of Stark.

He mused over the question.
"No."  He tilted his head to her, seeing if the reason she' asked was on her face. Hopefully, she hadn't lost anyone.
"If they were missed, I think they would've been found. The bones are under the snow, meaning they died before winter. Probably a lone wolf that got in a fight with the wrong animal."
He turned a sympathetic gaze to the remains yet it was the hard truth. Lone wolves that didn't have family in the area were often killed with no one to bury the body. Sometimes, you'd get religious or sympathetic wolves willing to do so. A wolf like him? Certainly not.
