Derg lay at the end of the peninsula. Watching the rolling ocean far out. The fins of large, marine mammals poked out of the water now and again. Sand dwelling creatures arose from under the sands and scuttled about, things crawled in from the sea.

He sighed, slumping his head on his paws again. His wounds ached, the water stung him. Though, from his experiences, that was a good thing. He couldn't avenge Keen. He whined low, almost inaudibly. Not that anyone was around to hear. He should go to Grezig. Fuck up the stupid face of her children. He wasn't worthy, relying on a packmate to fight a battle over his family. He'd outlive Vaati and spit on his grave, out of spite. Only then he'd drop dead.
Where he would once feel the fires of anger, he felt nothing.

Finding Derg has become a priority since her recovery (after finding Stanley, of course), but the search has proven more difficult than she'd anticipated. She often wishes for the aid of her mysterious savior; the wolf who'd cared for her for countless days after her fall only to disappear before she'd fully recovered. She wonders, sometimes, if the woman is dead. But Derg is her priority now, and somehow, she has found a trail through her wandering — one laced with the scent of blood.
The girl has never seen the coast before, and the sight of the crashing waves distracts her even from a distance. A soft squeak escapes her at the feeling of sand beneath her toes as she nears the water, though she's slightly distracted by Derg's strengthening scent — and then she sees him. She thinks. She sucks in a breath, freezing for a moment as she tries to identify the wolf with certainty — but she can't from this distance, and she finds herself breaking into a run despite the sharp pain through her foreleg. The scent of blood thickens in the air as she draws nearer, sharp and metallic, and her heart jumps. Derg! She calls breathlessly when she's close enough to see that it is him, suddenly fearing the worst, and her limbs seem to lock in place. Her abrupt halt nearly causes her to stumble, sending another sharp pain through her limb, but she's quiet, breath held as she waits for a response.

His head lifted, thinking he heard the padding of feet on the sand; his ear tilted to confirm his suspicions.
The figure sped up and he swiftly rose to meet them. They didn't sound large; couldn't be one of those darker characters.
He whipped about when Keen's voice carried to him, his mouth agape.

"Keen!" He called, starting towards her despite his aches and pains. She was alive! He'd found no trace of her but here she was. Running to him. She stopped suddenly, sand kicking up and drifting into his eyes. He stopped too, just as the sand blanketed his eyes which caused him to cry out and shake his head, blinking hard to stop the stinging.
He managed to open one eye enough to regard the girl, a grin spreading his face.
He shook his head the last time, stepping forward to close the gap between them.

He's alive. Derg moves, starting toward her and calling her name, and for a moment all of Keen's worries vanish. They come back quickly, of course; he's wounded, and — Sorry! She gasps as sand flies into his face, moving forward to clean it away with frantic, affectionate licks if Derg allows it. She catches a glimpse of his grin as she moves, and her heart jumps. Words are lost to her for the moment; all she can do is quietly appreciate their reunion.

He chuckles softly, suppressing a groan as the pain floods back.
He let her press the affectionate licks to him, cleaning away the sand. He pressed his own affectionate licks to her, glad to be with her again. To have her alive.
"I'm ok."
He pulled her into a hug, breathing in her scent.

He pulled back, "You're hurt. Is that why I couldn't find you?" Concern etched his face, hoping it wasn't another attack from the slivered beast. She couldn't let her get hurt again, no matter what. He'd failed twice now. A pack is what they needed.
Grezig.
