He hadn't heard his father's quite arrival, and so when he heard the words come suddenly from beside him, his eyes widened and he jumped a little. But he immediately recovered, staring over at his dad with what was now surprise; he never talked about mom—he never really talked about much of anything, which was usually fine with Kallik, but it would have been nice to know more about their mother. He often wondered what it would be like to have her here with them now—how different life would be. The fact that she was a forbidden topic made her loss that much harder to deal with as he got older and more able to comprehend things. He kind of resented his father for making things this way, but also realized how hard it must be for him, so he tried not to hold it against him too much.

He watched Siarut with no expression for a few moments before looking back up to the sky. He was silent for a while, unsure what to say but afraid that if he said nothing then he would miss out on his chance to learn something about mom. So finally, he softly asked: Which one was her favorite? He looked back over at dad as he spoke, uncertainty on his face now as he wondered if he would get the usual reaction or if he would get the answer he so desperately wanted. He just wanted to know her like dad did.
