Atka lay against him, eyes closed. She barely covered him, as tiny as she was. He ran a muzzle along her ribs. She was so very thin. He grinned darkly. She had held his weight as he had wondered.
She shouldn't have trusted him. He knew he would hurt her, somehow. It was only a matter of time. She would want more than he could give or someone would take something that he couldn't save her from. He was not a savior or an angel. He was a devil in disguise.
He was loathe to leave her, but he would need to soon. He lay a head down against her. Tucking her more firmly into his side. His voice a whisper.
