Redhawk Caldera scavenger hunt

After he had scavenged for some time, trying to find something that they would like, Eljay had finally collected some shiny rocks, polished by the Caldera's rivers. It had taken him hours of days of weeks to collect the best ones, but he liked the ones he had found: One that looked unnatural green and see-through, flat and smoothed by the river. One that was grey and usual-looking on one side, but when turned over revealed crystals inside. One that was blue and deep like the ocean, and looked rough and unpolished.

Nearby the den, Eljay hid the three stones and once he was done hiding them, he approached the den and called for @Eagle @Crane and @Cardinal to come out, then shared with them: I've hid some pretty stones nearby — you can find them if you follow grandpa's scent. He looked across the pups, waiting to see if there were any questions or if they were interested in his little scavenger hunt at all.

Crane had come to look forward to her grandfather's visits. She was fascinated by him, for he was neither her mother or her father, but the way he treated them was so familiar that it made her feel safe and loved.

Today, he came to her with a game. The concept was simple and it took all of her focus to keep the end goal in her mind. I hid some pretty stones nearby. Find the stones. How? Follow grandpa's scent.

She already knew what he smelled like, but she buried her little nose in his chest anyway.

eagle coincided with crane for a selfsame reason, but even moreso, he was named after his grandfather!

and the erudite in his regal seniority, held a quiet strength that he hoped to replicate. the young squire gracefully canted from the den with delight with his sisters.

a mission! he blinks furiously, trying to recall the brief associations of hunting and smell—crane had the right idea! he smuggled himself in his grandfather's arms for both a necessary fetch quest and for a bear hug with all his baby rubber bones could manage, and loped a few streaks north to track his first stone to wraen's seat.

Eljay smiled as the pups buried their noses in his chest to get a good whiff of his scent. Almost instinctively, Eljay leaned down to touch each of their heads, folding into the hug. Then he announced, Time to start looking, and it was Eagle who immediately started heading out. Eljay smiled as he watched Eagle, who seemed to be using a very precise approach, as he started heading out while sniffing the air. Then Eljay looked at Crane, eager to see what approach she would use.

but she did not want to pull away from his embrace. the gift of his presence was better than any pretty stone or gnawing bone. she heard eagle begin his search and pulled her face from eljay's chest to observe his retreating back.

the streak of her grandfather's scent was orange and easy to follow. traces of his presence were nearly everywhere, but none so bright as the one that her brother tore after.

perhaps, she thought, there would be something waiting for her on the edge of the territory. behind wraen's seat was harmony hollow.

she gave eljay's chin a kiss before she turned reluctantly away, no sense of urgency as she knew her thoughtful grandfather must have brought gifts for them all.

Eljay chuckled at Crane's gentle kiss, and smiled at how she took her time, seemingly without a care in the world. He followed Crane and Eagle as they went on the scavenger hunt, making sure to keep an eye on them in case anything should happen, and making sure they would each return home with one of the prizes he hid around.
