Ajei realized too late, she had been lax in her duties as wife, as mother as leader. She had been doing her own thing as the days grew colder. Filling caches, speaking with hardly anyone. Moonglow was not large, but that mattered not.
So today she settled outside her den. And she lifted her nose to the sky and she offered a listening ear to any and all. She would hold court so to speak. Nothing major, but if someone had wanted to speak with her and she had been missing in the moment. Here she was. Willing to speak.

Ahna, curious as ever, followed her mother out of the den that morning. She held her head and tail high, displaying a regal air about her. When her mother settled just outside the den, Ahna settled beside her. She looked to her mother with bright blue eyes, full of wonder and curiosity.
“Aana, can you tell me about dreams?” She asked, stating her oddly specific question.
She didn’t understand dreams well, and since she’d had such wonderful and mysterious dreams, she wanted to know more.

Ajei felt amusement twitch in her belly. Her daughter was far more exuberant than she. She had the grace of a princess, and the optimism of others that had come before. Ajei did not have such things. And she did not mind that her daughter had them, she was glad for it. She had not enjoyed being so quiet, demure, anxious at times.
A soft click of her tongue to teeth as she thought of an answer.

In both your father's culture and mine. Dreams are Sacred. THey can tell you a path to follow, a past that needs tending, sometimes even the future. Everything has a purpose, even if it is unknown at first.

Aana spoke wisely of what dreams meant. “Wow!” She replied. There was a pause, a silence as Ahna thought deeply. When she spoke again, her voice was soft, wondering: “Aana, I’ve had dreams.” She began, “And in my dreams, there is a white wolf with bright green eyes. She is kind and wise. And she knows my name. But… I don’t know her name.”
She then gazed expectantly up at her mother. Mothers always had the answers: right?

Ajei listened and her heart stuttered. She knew the wolf and for a momwnt she grew very sad that it was not her mother. Shikoba would have been wonderful even in dreams.
I cannot know for sure, but it sounds as if your Fathers aana is visiting you. Her name was Kukutux. You can call her Anânsiak, or grandmother. She was wise and kind.
Im not sure if that's the right dialect for the language.

She noticed the change in her mother's expression, even if it was slight. Her mother spoke, telling her who the woman in her dreams may have been. The woman's name was Kukutux, and she was her father's mother. At her mother's words, a smile grew on her maw. "Kukutux," she repeated, as if dedicating it to memory. "I think you're right, Anaa. In my dreams, she is very wise. She knows who I am."
If this were her paternal grandmother, now she wondered about her maternal grandmother. "Who was your Anaa? What was her name? Was she a lot like you?" She asked the questions rolling off her tongue. She just had to know more about her ancestors.

You're fine. I don't know it any better myself. It could be. Google says that Anaaluk is a term for grandmother.

Ajei did not try and hide her expression. It was good for her daughters to understand emotions and how things affected those around them. But it did hurt a little and for once she wished her mother had believed as Kuku had that she could return in dreams.
A soft laugh, gentle, sad, heartbreaking.

Oh my mama was Shikoba. And she was nothing like me. She was brave and strong and soft and the best hunter in the pack. She lead beside Kukutux and Aiolos as Star Hunter. She even trained Rodyn herself. Granted he had some of his own skills, but still. She didn't let teh world break her. She was brave and I miss her.
