Worry shimmered in his youthful eyes, marred with pain, while he willed them to understand. Wifi looked guilty, but didn't say anything, and mommy seemed to be getting upset.

Mommy's frustration made Eljay feel worse, weighing down on him like a piece of lead, and he quieted down a little even though he felt worse on the inside now. Mommy suggested a story, and Eljay sniffed noisily and said: "Okstory." Even though he didn't feel like a story at all. When he was younger it was easier to divert him with other activities, but now that he was growing up his mind was also developing and in his case, that meant that his attention span grew — and so did his attention span when it came to being upset.
