While a stormy hardness had sunk into Indra’s gaze, it did not remain as the woman looked over Saucy as she spoke. It struck Indra peculiar— and perhaps sweet — that strangers like her were willling to put their wariness aside for a common good that likely was of little benefit to them. She wondered if she would have been so generous with her time.

She sighed; she didn’t like the person she was becoming. Cold. Untrusting. Unsympathetic. There was a time in her life she was much more like Saucy than the withered beast before them; maybe Bearclaw had sunk black roots into her, or her hardships had bled the joy clean from her.
