Honestly, Mal wasn't sure what he actually expected.  He didn't know what he wanted, either.  After all he'd been through, it wasn't like he was expecting her to run over and embrace him, but maybe something more dramatic than just standing there as dumbfounded as he was?  After all, it wasn't like there were many wolves out there that looked like her, so it should be pretty obvious who he was.  Right? And so she wasn't someone else, right?

Of course, there was the fact the last time she sort of saw him, it was indirectly through a bush at a distance.  And before that he was a tiny little fuzzball.  Maybe he changed a lot.  He wouldn't know.  The world seemed the same to him.  Either way, Mal wasn't nearly as loud as he typically was, uncertain, Mom?
