For ease of timelinethings, assume Mal shows up IDK partway through the next round? Like not the same instant of Miriam because that's weird. XD

Mal had found Liliana's trail across the borders while he was on patrol... Again? He really had thought that he'd gotten the point across last time the twins had gone wandering. Apparently not. Hell. Well, time to go find her. Hopefully she wouldn't be far, but the trail wasn't the freshest... If only he could be everywhere at once.

So he ran along after her. Occasionally he'd call for his daughter, but he heard no reply, but again, he was far enough behind that wasn't surprising. Eventually he did see a taller grey figure (and an unfamiliar darkish one), and called out, Miriam?! And yes, Mal was concerned, duh. He'd ran all the way out here to make sure his daughter was safe, which it looked like she hadn't been, but it would take a few moments for him to put the evidence together, so even before he came to a stop, he asked, What happened? He came up close to Miriam and Liliana, to look them over and make a decision based on what he could tell and what was said.

Then his glance slid back to the unfamiliar yearling, suspicious. He was probably lucky Mal hadn't confused him with Merrick or anything (relations, after all!), but unfamiliar guy and how the scene likely was set at this point, he wasn't gonna trust the guy unless someone said he'd turned out to be a rescuer.
