Greatwater Lake Serenity Now

Watching the boy "sneak" off with his ass waving in the air did little to reassure Lane. They would most certainly see him coming. Lane would have to accomodate for that. 

She slid towards the pair of geese slowly and steadily, body hovering just a hair above the ground. Every now and then she popped her head up to check the position of the geese. 

When she was still a ways off, she noticed their behavior change. Previously, they had been drifting in lazy circles, but now they were both still and oriented toward the shoreline. One of the hunters had been detected. Lane was betting it wasn't her. 

She slipped into the water. The irony was not lost on her that she had spent a good chunck of of the morning annoyed that she was wet and trying to get warm and dry, and now she was going to be soaked completely through. A warm belly full of goose would improve the situation dramatically though, if she could make that happen. 

As cold as the lake was, Lane didn't move her body at all save an occasional paddle to keep her nose and eyes above the water. There was a slight current flowing along the shoreline-- likely due to the emptying river-- and Lane allowed it to tug her gently toward the birds.  With any luck, the geese would be distracted by the "sneaky" kid on land, and they wouldn't see the much quieter threat gently floating toward them.
