It was sad to see, and infuriating when Penn let himself think about the individual who had done this to her (he only knew about the one). He let her continue, then toned down his own humor to try and match her seriousness.

Sure, I like it when you're happy, but we all have our shit that we go through. Who am I to judge you for having a rough time now or ever?"

"And as for how long until I get sick of you, I give it another hour or so," Penn replied, still being honest though he suspected she would think he was joking, "But I'll take a break and then see you later for dinner." He shrugged. Wasn't that just how it worked?
