Time could do that. A year spent together no doubt had allowed their affection to flower, blooming likely when Arlette had, resulting in their litter of children. Had she not seen them, she might have wondered if they were Arric's, or if he'd chosen to step in and commit himself to the family for the woman's sake- but his trademark eye ring practically branded the children as his. 

Hmm, She murmured. A grateful, devoted man he seemed to be; agreeable too. She couldn't help but feel some amount of insecurity about her own situation, but she loved her children all the same. Dat be good, She commented, so her envy might not show so much. 

Her instincts butted their way into the conversation, and while she was out of earshot, she got the feeling that her absence was becoming noticed. Well, I should get back to my minnows, She said. If, ah- if Arlette 'ave any of dat balm you talk of? If she 'ave any to spare... She would put it to good use, though she knew she had nothing to offer in return.
