it had been almost a month since the little bearbabes were born, and ancelin wasted no time in introducing them to different scents and textures. pheasant feathers, deer poop, chamomile flowers, red dirt from the valley's single path — anything that might early prepare them for life beyond the den and the expectations of their skilled pack.
today it was a vole, half-living. he set the tiny thing among his quick-growing children, noting how auberon, little alfie, raised her ursine paw to prod first.
if his wolven kids had any qualms being raised alongside a bearcub, they certainly had not shown it.
