He was so used to his headaches and migraines that he did not realize his place in a big pack, which consisted of tough survivalists, was compromised. If things would ever go badly, he would be the first to go or to be exiled.

But the trauma had left him not only slightly disabled, but childishly naive. He believed Mahler to be his best friend and the remaining wolves (with the exception of Wylla, who he for some unexplainable reason felt instinctive fear; he did not remember their brutal encounter few months ago) just as good.
