Every single muscle in his body ached in a way he had never felt before. Kallik regretted not taking a break or drinking water during the hours of his punishment. Maybe he wouldn't be quite as miserable now. He had tried to lay in the snow, but it didn't provide much relief. The thought that he deserved it intruded into his mind and had shame swelling in his chest. 

The auxillary had finally dropped down next to a large lake in an oasis-like area within the canyon. In the winter it was barren, but it would likely look much greener come spring. He was resigned to the fact that he would just have to suffer for a few days until the soreness subsided; he had surely dealt with much worse.
