After their last encounter, Reiko couldn't stop thinking of Yuudai, of who would be her best suitor opposing her parent's wishes and deciding for herself. Drawn by the curse of a woman's heat, she trailed after the man's scent, passing by new blossoms painted blue, purple and yellow, the mountains loomed over in the distance as she lightly padded her way to him, stilted legs carrying her with grace.

What was she doing? Could she be putting their friendship in peril, so quickly after reuniting with her two childhood friends? Was it worth it? Did he feel the same? Nerves set her belly a flutter as she softly strode through the green glades. Should she call for him? The name was caught in her throat as her eyes wandered looking for the familiar white wolf with ears flat against her skull as she tried to remain brave.

He wasn’t far from her side, as usual. Although his responsibilities had expanded, he spent more and more time away from his two best friends, he was always sure that they were safe. After their last rendezvous, Yuu had purposefully kept a distance. His own hormones raging against his self-restraint. It of course didn’t help that Hiromi and Rei were in heat at the same time. He was surrounded by woman, and the introverted, sensitive man made a point to stay away.

Not to mention Takeshi was looming around. That was the last thing needed, a fight for dominance. At any other point in their lives Yuudai would have willingly stepped aside, allowing the man to do as he wished if he left Yuudai out of it. But now. Now Yuu wasn’t so sure. As these thoughts circulated, a branch cracked behind him. It was usually very difficult to sneak up on Yuu, but the wind was not in his favour.

Turning to find the very Empress he was trying to avoid, Yuudai paused immediately. Catching her cyan gaze with his lavender. He realized then exactly what he had been avoiding. He heat now in full swing, Yuudai had no hope of walking away. “Reiko.” He greeted softly, flicking his eyes to the ground for only a moment, his submission preliminary at best.

For now, Takeshi wasn't in her thoughts. As far as she knew, they were just friends, and he was being a terrible one at that but nothing she couldn't handle. Her womanly instincts pushed her to think of only one thing, and that one thing made her so nervous; yet, she couldn't' turn around. Her thoughts lingered on solely the one thing, and that was to get as close to Yuudai as physically possible. More so now than ever before.

Yuudai, I- Want you, need you, more than ever. Hesitantly she took a step forward, yearning to close that distance just a little more and stopped just as soon as she crept closer by a step. With her maw slightly hanging in awe, eyes wide and full of hidden lust, of unobtainable love for the man who stood before her. I-I... I don't know what I'm doing. Yes she did, the Empress simply didn't want to admit such foolish things. 

She was terrified, with a heart-racing in her chest deafening her ears and choking the words right out of her throat. Even her vision felt blurred. To this point, she didn't even realize how much she was leaning forward, trying to reach as close to the samurai as possible without taking another step closer. Not daring to do so.

Yuudai was once again cornered by one of the woman in his life, this time it was more purposeful, more certain. Her scent grew stronger, and his willpower dwindled. “Reiko… your highness…I…” But even as he tried to form a coherent sentence she continued to close the distance. His world narrowed, his thoughts vacated, and the only thing that matter were them. Reiko and Yuudai. Empress and her Samurai.

He ignored her comment, simple because he did know what they were doing, and he had no reason left to stop it. All rationality had left him completely. At first he hesitantly leaned forward, giving her plenty of time to pull away, but as she remained, Yuudai closed the distance. His head coming to meet her in an affectionate manner, “Rei…” Slipped from his lips, heated and breathless.

The world around them disappeared. The songs of the birds distant and near all muted as all she could hear is his voice and her own heart. To give in or to flee, to ignore her own desires and leaving them as nothing but dreams, or give into them and make them a reality. As time went on and the two lingered, the latter seemed more plausible. It was harder and harder to turn away from the samurai.

As Yuudai closed the distance, she did her part to assist. As he moved, she did too, offering her head for him, pleading for some contact, for them to touch as she had desired for so long. Pressing herself against him, running her pale velvet muzzle along his and cheek, neck and finally back to his face. I- Shouldn't, couldn't! But she would if he didn't have more control than she did.

I can't hide my feelings for you any longer, Yuudai. She loved him, she loved Hiromi too! She wanted them both, desired Yuudai to bring her children... Could all three of them be together? Was that possible or only a fever dream?

This shouldn’t be happening. Was all he could think of as she leaned into him, as she joined him in a slow dance of affection and longing. Her need and want, matching his own. He circled her, his body caressing hers. His running down one side of her delicate frame, and up the other side.

We shouldn’t do this. He’s mind continued to scream at him. But he couldn’t dare to pull away, couldn’t fathom separating from her. The revelation that she had feelings for him, should have shocked him more, and probably would once he wasn’t in such proximity to her scent. Her pheromones.

“Then don’t.” He spoke boldly, more sure of himself in this moment than he had ever been. He didn’t want her to hide from him, he wanted everything. His possessiveness getting the better of him. There was no self-restraint left, only her words could stop the inevitable. “I love you.” He hadn’t meant to speak. He hadn’t intended to reveal his heart, still confused by his feelings for Hiromi and the situation with Shi. But in this moment, there was no denying the love that he felt.

Every tough fuelled her desire. The Empress could barely contain herself any longer. Already she could feel herself melting in his presence, his own desire electrifying the air and urging her further to dive into her own head first. She lived for this embrace, with every caress offered by his muscular frame, something the young woman had dreamt of for so very long. 

I won't. She reaffirmed with breathlessness to her tone. Before her thoughts screamed against her desires, but now, they were silenced. Completely muted as Yuudai uttered those three words. Like wine, it hazed her cognition, flowing through her veins with every rapid heartbeat within her breast. Sliding under his chin as the man came back to greet her face, ears flattening to allow his chin to stroke her crown as she caressed his neck from underneath. 

Glueing every part of herself against him, hips pressing against his side, tail wrapping its plumage around anything it could, legs, back, she soaked him in as much as she could. Starved for attention, for touch, for romance, she'd not let this moment fly by. I love you too. With every fiber of my being, ever since we were pups. But now it had a word, it had a meaning now that she understood it.

He had known, somewhere deep down. As she somehow drew closer, her head delicately placed against his chest and neck. They stood supporting each other, he curled around her, as it always should be. He smiled gently at her words, so the feeling had always been mutual. Yuudai relaxed further into her form, his legs filling with jelly.

“Reiko, you have always been and will always be, my Queen.” There would never be enough words to express his feelings, which happened to be one of the reasons he often chose to remain silent. But as he gazed down at Reiko, Yuudai knew this was it. This was who he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

The weight she felt from him was welcomed as he relaxed into her too. Pressing her nose against his cheek, twisting her head so she could speak directly into him. Not right now. She pleaded softly, nipping softly at the base of his ears. Today, we are one. As she spoke, the contact was briefly broken as she stepped away, slipping out from under his chin and teasing the man with a curl of her tail around his muzzle. With a flick of her tail, and a glance over her shoulder, half-lidded from under long dark lashes, she silently beckoned him to follow.

They'd find a place away from prying eyes, where she'd continue to bathe him in kisses and strokes of adoration - here, she'd offer herself finally. At her most vulnerable, she'd trust Yuudai with a moment of passion between them. Truly believing that she had finally obtained what she desired most of all...

Of course, he had followed her willingly, with promises in the air and love in the future, Yuudai followed his heart. Trusting that this was right, this was instinct. He remained curled around her post union, his own hormones racing, urging him to be protective and possessive.

Yuudai dropped his head across the nape of her neck, grooming her periodically. Simple basking in her presence.

Once there was no turning back they laid there together, alone, she enjoyed every moment of it and hoped it would last an eternity. After waiting what felt like a lifetime for this, even if they remained this way for days it would always feel too soon once they inevitably parted. She enjoyed being his, and only his. The feeling was comforting and made her feel as safe as ever.

Yuu... Her tone was uncertain, filled with worry over the thoughts that plagued her still. One thing at a time rose within the back of her mind. Was this wrong? Even if he groomed her lovingly, draped over her protectively, possessive, she needed that reassurance that this would not cause a rift between anyone.

He took a moment to consider his response, they hadn’t technically done anything wrong. Betrothal isn’t the same as wed. The question hung between them for a moment before Yuudai leaned his head against her. “Love is never wrong.” His mother had taught him that long ago, her final plea only that he follow his heart. It was the best answer he could offer her, the only explanation he needed. For now anyway.

Pleased with his answer, she lingered as long as they could in each other's presence. Preening and grooming one another carefully until the time came for them to part and be on their usual tracks, to do their duties. Leaving him with a parting kiss on the cheek, she was hopeful they'd meet again later on, and again... and never end this loop until their days were numbered.
