All Welcome
Fuck it. He was going to the sound.

Even if it wasn't part of Heda's domain, he'd wanna be here. It was lovely. Great view, nice waves--no wonder Blackhead and her gang of gal pals had taken to it. He couldn't blame them, but like, also, he could? He really had no qualms about blaming others for things that were quite patently out of order.

Well, he'd show them out of order. It just so happened that he'd had a lot to drink this morning with breakfast. So, without hesitation, he walked along the edge of the beach where it met the cliffs, leaving a trail of pungent urine behind. Ah, the sweet smell of give-no-fuckery.

Piss drein, piss daun, nomajokas, Verx said, eyes creasing half-shut in an ear-to-ear grin.

He'd spent the night in the caves; and by that, dear reader, we mean he spent eight or nine miserable hours trying to adjust his body so that it wasn't screaming at him. When he emerged in the morning Firefly looked a little bit disheveled but otherwise no different - the same dark circles under his eyes (hardly noticable with his complexion), the same hobbling gait, just a little bit more ornery than his usual. Illidan had told him to get to know the beach as best he could, and since sleep didn't seem eager to befall him, Firefly went ahead and got an early start to the day.

The wolf was striding across the sand with his nose a few inches above the ground's surface, investigating the scents of the beach and trying to decide if they were familiar or not. He didn't notice the stranger traipsing around, trailing urine like a poorly connected ileoanal resevoir (google it) for a little bit — and by the time he noticed the shifting shadow in his blurry periphery, the stranger was already deep within the territory.

It sent Firefly's vibrant hackles rising up; he narrowed his eyes to try and focus his milky, mostly-bad left eye, and began an interception course. There was no way to tell (at least for him) if this stranger was a friend of Illidan's or not, so the man approached as quickly as he could but with a neutral posture, just in case.

The specimen that came to greet him. . .whew, boy. He gave him a look of respect, stopping as his eyes wandered over his scars. Fine warrior by the looks of it, needed to be in Drageda. His smile grew cold as he caught Blackhead's scent on his pelt, and he padded closer, staring him down.

Hey, bro, Verx said, stiff shoulders at odds with his casual tone. You seem like a cool guy, so I'll be real with you. Go tell your lady friends to fuck off. I'm sick of them hanging around my turf.

Whether or not he got the message, Vercingetorix didn't care. He just wanted to nip this problem in the bud before it got out of hand.

The sound of the stranger's voice did not elicit much of a reaction from him. He stood silently while the other wolf ran his mouth, feeling a strong desire to frown and let confusion reign across his marred face, but he managed to keep himself stoic until the messages were relayed — none of which made much sense to Firefly, who hadn't met anyone besides Illidan and his black-capped mother. The man listened but he was also studying the stranger too, sizing him up, feeling like he was looking at a mirror image of himself (minus all the ugly scarring), which sent Firefly's mind on to a tangent of other thoughts — did he act this way once? Did he ever resemble this wolf? They were not familiar (but then again, not much was familiar to the traveler).

His ears twitched at the mention of turf. It struck him as odd that someone would wander this deep in to foreign territory in order to give a casual fuck you to the residents. Something about that stirred irritation within Firefly, and his expression turned a touch colder as he processed. Once there was silence, he interjected: You done? He looked utterly bored. Illidan had mentioned he might be needed to defend the territory but this didn't feel like it qualified; he felt like he was being berated by some punk kid, and it played in to his lack of sleep. (Glossing over the fact that Verx was clearly an adult, and Fly-Boy here was more of a kid, oops.)

He snorted a derisive little noise and abruptly turned around. As he began to stride away from the idiot, Firefly blurted, Piss off. What did this guy expect? A fight? Oof, maybe a nap first.

Oh, hell to the no.

'Scuse me? Vercingetorix called out, laughing incredulously, though the sound was without humor. He broke into a graceful trot and fell alongside the man, canting his head toward him. His eyes were probing. I didn't ask for sass. I asked you to pass on a message.

He moved, then, to block the stranger's pack, squaring his shoulders. I don't know who put it into your head that it's okay for you to be here, but it's not, Verx informed him coldly. I smell that woman on your coat. She's squatting here. This land belongs to someone else. Now, if you're attached, I'd be happy to refer you to my commander. . .

Otherwise--sorry, what did you say, again? Oh, yeah. . .otherwise, you can piss off.

Before long the stranger was cutting him off, which wouldn't have likely bothered him had it not been tedious enough to travel anywhere without someone getting in the way; he did that enough for himself. The stranger wrattled off more of an explanation and while it intrigued Firefly to consider the old woman and her son to be squatters, he didn't see any validity in the presumption that the land was already claimed. There was nothing remarkable about it — he'd only ever found signs of the small family, a few other feminine scents, but nothing to contrast the claim they said they held over the beach.

The man heard a comment about a commander and this also made him curious, but he did not want to engage this fool for any longer than he had to, so he didn't ask about it. There was a grim expression on Firefly's face while he listened to the interloper drone on, and on, and on, and when he countered at the end, Firefly rolled his eyes.

You're telling me, he started up, sounding a little bit annoyed but mostly incredulous, that someone, somewhere, pissed all over this beach, stuffed some dead meat in some caches, raised some kids, maybe even an army judging from your leader's asshole title, and somehow an old woman and her son wandered in to the area and took it over without any issues what-so-ever?

He wasn't seriously asking a question — just verbally outlining how ridiculous this guy sounded. If there was a force living here on the beach there was no way Illidan or his mother would've survived on their own. Firefly hadn't met the rest of the group but he didn't need to - everything this guy was saying was idiotic. His face split in to a giant ugly grin, and for a split second he looked like his old mirthful self, until his booming laughter filled the air, carrying across the sand. He sucked in a breath after a few moments of uncontrollable guffaws and added, Your so-called commander must be quite the alpha if they can't even -- can't even stop some old lady from squatting -- oh my god, I think you're giving me a heart attack.

Okay, no, not really, but it took a moment for Firefly to control himself. When he did, he looked grim and had an expression of serious business despite the humor he had felt moments ago. I'll pass on your message. I'm sure the others could use a bit of laughter in their lives.

He wanted to rip the boy limb from limb. He wanted to destroy him. But much to Vercingetorix's credit, he stood through this entire, incredible monologue, listening quietly. From the sarcasm, to the laughter, and finally, the deadpan. Silence. Cold, unflinching silence. Gee, he supposed he really was growing up.

Then he smiled, slowly, the corners of his mouth curling. They would be friends, in other circumstances. It was a shame that he'd probably have to kill the scarred man, eventually.

I'm glad you liked my joke, Verx responded, laughter of his own gurgling in his throat. Trust me, plenty more where that came from. I'll have your sides splitting, bro.

He ought to attack him just for the insult to Heda, but he knew that a brawl now could lead to something much bigger -- and that couldn't happen without consulting the others. He might be a chucklehead most of the time, but he got serious when it counted. And right now, it counted. Heda would have his head if he started a war by being an asshole.

Well, I hate to leave so soon, but I'm all outta piss, he said, mock regret in his voice. Leda.

He turned and began the ascent, making a beeline for the cliffs. It was time to act, and it was time to act now.

At first he wasn't sure what the guy would do. Maybe they'd get in to it (maybe he was nervous about a fight because of Firefly's many scars, that would've been an ego boost to Ambrose back in the good old days), maybe this would lead to further trouble for the little family on the beach -- but in the end the stranger chose to leave, not getting what he wanted out of the beach's latest resident. Unless this was exactly what he wanted - a reason to report back to their commander about their increasing numbers.

The wolf said something about piss, and then murmured a sound that Firefly didn't understand (it sort of sounded like he was saying later, like a farewell, but in slang terms); and beat a hasty retreat the way he had come. It was Firefly's turn to follow and impede, which he did despite his limp. He kept up pretty well but did not insert himself in the way of the other wolf, preferring to act as a close escort.

Yeah, sure, just.. One last thing, no, he wouldn't stop him, but he'd talk and try to get his own point across even if it was futile to attempt. Don't you think this is a waste of your time? You seriously think that a couple of wolves living in a cave is a threat? Fuck, man, you need a hobby or something 'cuz that's just sad. The trail eventually led through the cliffs and once they hit those, he'd be unable to follow so closely, which left him with this last ditch effort to try and make some sense out of the situation.

Wow, he was following. Huh. He hadn't expected that. Not in a predatory way, either, just asking the same smart-ass questions. Verx let out a breathy sigh, rolling his eyes, and cocked his head to glance at the young man, ears flattening.

You think I was born yesterday? he asked, his voice tinged with patience worn thin. It ain't a 'couple wolves in a cave,' man. Not some old lady and her son, neither. Don't downplay this shit. I'm not dumb.

He moved to try and shrug the boy away, getting closer to the cliff wall and increasing his pace. Go tell your friends the joke you thought was so funny. I'm not talking about this anymore with you.

Firefly wishes he could do more than follow and escort this wolf, he feels only a tiny sense of territorial aggression about this place since he is so new to it and beyond that, he is nervous about getting in to a fight. But the conversation wasn't going anywhere. The stranger rebuked his continued verbal harassment until he broke away at a sprint and began to climb through the ridge, and Firefly couldn't follow swiftly enough with his injuries. With a huff the man watched the dark wolf go, then turned back and began his slow descent to the ridge all over again. He needed to find Illidan (or whomever) and tell them about this.
