Boredom was an understatement.
Lilitu spent a lot of days lately looking at the mountains, at the sky above. There had to be something else out there, right? Mama had gone away for a while but then come back; presumably she'd visited other places like these.
But how to see them? It would have to be a trek over the mountains. She stared up at the slope, observing the way the alpine forest eventually faded into intimidating crags. That would be the toughest part of any journey. She could do trees and grass—rocks were another story.
Soon, though, she'd get itchy enough to climb. Her mind and heart were growing faster than her body. Within her still-small frame was the soul of an adventurer.
Lilitu hopped upon a nearby boulder, scrabbling up to the top, and peered into the distance. Into her future.
