Seal was starting to feel a lot better. Any bruising had faded and all the itchy scabs had gone. Her mother and Sialuk advised that she shouldn’t be too active just yet, but what harm could a little walkabout do?

The other day, Da had left the ulaq in a hurry. After, Ma’am was quick to follow. There was a commotion among the adults… something really bad and sad had happened.

Seal gave them a wide birth, sensing she should probably give them space, and found @Orca II by the rendezvous site.

“Orca, do ye ken what happened?” she asked her sister, hoping for some insight.

There was great sadness, none of which Orca could figure out the source of. There was a pit in her belly as she jumped to her own conclusions, deciding for everyone else the worst and believing it (until told otherwise)—a character flaw, to be sure.

Seal asked, much to Orca’s dismay. She started with a vigorous shake of her head. But… mebe the hellcat killt someone, she whispers. Yes, imagining the worst. She looked to Seal. I cursed the thing—it will be soon to go too, if it worked, she lifted her head, a little proud to have done something for Seal and da without losing any fur in the process.

Seal’s paws cupped over her mouth as she gasped. “No, it cannae be!” she muttered, incredulous. Yet she calmed a little when Orca had proclaimed she had taken action.

“Cursed it?” She asked with wonder in her voice. “How did ye do it, Orca?” Seal scooted closer to her sister who, she noticed, had already grown bigger than her.
