✴It was mid-afternoon when the sky had begun to turn grey, the sun barely staying in the sky these days. The gloom of the dimming light seemed to reflect how Revui felt lately; grim, cold, getting darker by the moment. Revui had given up on his patrols of the borderlands by this point, willing to leave it to the adults while he took a break. He was pacing on an open plateau, filled with energy and having nothing to do with it—or rather, he felt like he should be doing something but couldn't find the motivation, which was rare for him. As he paced, he noticed a speck of white fluttering to the soil by his paws. Then another. He ducked to investigate, and by the time he'd approached, sniffed, lifted his head, his silver coat was covered in tiny flecks of salt and pepper. His gaze went up, and in the murky sky he spied misty clouds that seemed to be losing pieces—the snow was soon dusting the exposed segments of the plateau, and he watched as his paces were swiftly covered in a layer of thin ice.

The clouds were falling.
Yama couldn’t remember what she was doing before noticing the falling flakes. From the moment it began, her attention was captured—and into a trance it casted her, an unbreakable stare at the sky above. She moved still, venturing across the land, trying to see where—if—it ended. And each time she stood still, the snow collected across her, painting the child a pristine white; a shiver shook her to the core but she continued onward nevertheless, conscious absent and mind no longer acknowledging what she was seeing.

✴Revui was just as perplexed as his sibling, and was staring at the sky as he went along, but he paused when he spotted his timber-toned sister. He bayed to her with a softer-than-usual huff, trying to get her attention without disturbing the weather, as if that were possible. He knew what rain was and he knew what autumn was, but what was this? The flurry of white flecks made him just as nervous; he tried to put on a brave face but he found himself sliding up next to Yama and leaning against her lightly, as he might with Arcturus, eager for connection and familiarity amongst this strangeness.
