It had been a week since the attack. A week to be tended to by his mother, to mend and to reflect back on the situation. Neither himself nor Speedy had explained in great detail what had really happened — how it had been his teeth that had ripped in to her, his tongue that tasted her blood. They knew of the interloper and the fight because it accounted for his many wounds and, in part, explained the mouthful of flesh that had been removed from Speedy. But it was wrong. And every morning when he woke to the prodding of his mother or the ministrations of a pack mate, he had the chance to clear things up. The desire to tell the truth died in him that same moment, every day, until Revui had grown numb to it.

When he began to push the limits, they told him to rest. They told him to stay away from the difficult slopes and — most importantly — well within the boundary of the territory. As if his heavy steps were somehow predatory; as if the steel glint in his eye was as sharp as a sword. A week passed him by. The pack continued to function as if nothing had ever happened, and Revui wallowed.

He wallowed until he could take no more, and without a word to anyone he climbed down the mountain as swiftly as he was able, hardly hiding his purpose as he approached the lower levels of Moonspear — then the foothills, and the dark banding on the eastern horizon that made him think of Blackfeather and that stupid woman, and how badly he wished he had killed her. He did not tell anyone where he was going, but it was entirely possible that @Arcturus took notice of his brother's antics, or @Amekaze, or even @Speedy. He turned north and began to run.

And he didn't stop until he felt ready to collapse. The brine-scented forest walled him in as he came crashing through the undergrowth, having ripped open his half-healed wounds (and in a way, ensuring that they'd scar). He slumped against one of the mighty sequoia trees and breathed many quick, heavy breaths. And when he caught himself staring up at the trees, he thought, I will be fire, like his father had mentioned. I will burn the world.
