big old jagged stone like he ain't ever seen before. the earth seemed to stretch out further than the wild cajun had ever imagined he'd know. those lands sure weren't like the bayou, he'd realized. buckshot wasn't sure if he'd ever find another place like his home again. them stones were still mighty impressive to someone like him.
stretched out against the pale color of the rock, buck looked an awful lot like a great brown grizzly. were it not for the dappling of white against his rear and underside, he very well could have been mistaken for a far more fearsome predator. with the sprawled frame and lackadaisical nature, though; he couldn't possibly cause any harm, could he?

✴ Fresh bruises had begun to appear on the boy's sides from where the stranger had bludgeoned at him with his paws, but he wore them like badges of honor. In the coming days the color of his skin would change but it was all hidden beneath the silver scale armor of his pelt. But he could feel them. They stung if he moved a certain way, although the reminder of his wrestling with the shadow only lifted his spirits.
He'd returned to the mountain that night and slept within the confines of his family's claim. When the dawn broke he was up and roaming, slightly sleep deprived but far more curious of the world off the mountainside. This time he headed south, to where the mountains dipped in to a pit of low hills and tall grasses. It was here that he spotted the shape of a living boulder lumbering about.
Curious and unafraid, Revui clambored his way down the rise and began lurching through the reeds, as if he could sneak up on the large thing. He had not seen a bear before and so he would not know to compare this massive thing to one, but he did compare them to his sisters and was in awe of the creature's size; they were larger than anyone or anything he'd ever met.

now it wasn't the smartest thing for the young boy to sneak up on the napping fellow. buckshot had made himself vulnerable in that state. were it not for the complete shock that he suffered through upon realizing he'd found a bit if company, he likely would have lashed out with the full force of his brutal shape. instead, he rolled over to his side and regarded the youth with a quirked brow and a stiff frame. buck had never been too fond of the youth.
"din't yah momma eva deach yah not tuh sneak up on folks?" the man inquired in a rumbling cajun drawl. the ghostly color of his eyes flickered across the young man without even a modicum of interest. "could ged hurt, cher."

✴ While he thought the boulder had been moving, it had really been a trick of the autumn light through the waving mane of some great big thing. The grass trembled too, but Revui's attention was fixed on the broad thing. He realized as he got closer that the sides of the boulder were undulating with breath; in, out, in, out, and then rolling away from him. In the next moment a pair of eyes were fixed on him and he stopped moving as if that would save him from scrutiny.
The voice he understood, if only barely. There was a heavy accent to the words that made things a little harder for him, and he idly tilted his head to and fro as if a new angle would help. Get hurt? He supposed that this large thing — this wolf, he realized — could probably crush him so fast that he'd be dust before his family would ever notice.
But he was not afraid, regardless. He was impressed. Revui looked at the slacking creature and paced a step in one direction, then another, angling for a better look, and then he tried to mimic the stranger's gargantuan size. If this was the gym, he'd be flexing in front of the mirror and trying to match the biggest guy in there. He was nearly at his full size and that made him bigger than his siblings and nearly as large as his sister Hydra, but nowhere near this big.
He realized he couldn't quite make it, and chuffed softly in defeat, but didn't leave.

the boy was perplexed, but lord! buck could not understand why. it had been a very simple question, had it not? the intrusive youth didn't seem to care what was being said. he was more conceerne with the massive form in front of him. buck watched when the child puffed his frame up and made himself appear larger. there was a wild snicker that passed across his muzzle before he threw his head back and laughed from the pit of his gut.
in a few slow movements, buckshot hitched his limbs beneath the large mass that was his dappled body and pushed himself up to stand. it was there that he lowered his crown and stared directly into the eyes of the young man. "wat's de maddah wid you coon's oud 'ere? de voodoo woman come for yah tongue?" he demanded in a tone that lacked all empathy. the first pale thing he'd met had been a silent walker too.

✴ When the creature got to his feet, Revui stopped his inspection and tensed as if to prepare for an attack. He wasn't sure what to expect. Instead of assault he got more words - and a direct look, and for Revui it was like facing off against something primordial.
The comments themselves met his twisting ears and he gave a small snort, slicking them back at the sound of laughter. He decided he didn't like to be laughed at. It was the tone of it, working its way under his skin and making him itch. He lifted his lip and flashed his front teeth as a sign of irritation but then he hid his teeth, glanced deferentially at the grass, and muttered,
no.

"you simmah down now. you was da one who tot he could sneak, ain't dat righ'd cher? you ain't got a lot tah be sour aboud," buck reminded him with another wry smirk. whether it was his place or not to aggravate the young man; the cajun always felt he'd been gifted with a special talent. why squander his ability to push buttons so well? besides, he didn't think someone so full of youth was designed to exist in such serious and bleak conditions. boys were intended to have fun.
"wad's wrong wid all you boys? all of yah are so serious, nah? wad happ'n tuh havin fun?" the cajun brute continued to prod with a wicked smirk. of course he did not expect that his oresent company would take well to the relentless inquiry. still, he did not care. buck had a back woods charm about him, but he was entirely lacking in most common sense scenarios. it didn't matter. buckshot owed nothing to this boy.

✴ This beast might've been big, but so far he was all talk. The more he rambled the less interesting he seemed to Revui, who was beginning to inch away until there was a sizable gap between them. He'd found something and investigated, only to have his ears talked off by this impressively sized but odd sounding wolf — that'd teach him. In the future he'd keep closer to the mountain. At least there he could play with the deer population.
Revui didn't know what he was on about, but he was getting bored of it all and that meant he was getting restless. He paced a little, looked back towards the mountain that rose around him, and snorted once the bear-wolf was finished speaking. He looked pointedly at him with more sass than he knew what to do with, as if to say, are you done? And slid his crocodilian mouth open in a giant yawn.
September 18, 2018, 10:22 AM
you're damn right he was big! and now he was also bored, because the boy was a downright snooze. buckshot couldn't believe he'd willingly traveled to a territory where all the young pups were so uppity in themselves that they couldn't spare a word or two for a kindly stranger. revui had lost every ounce of interest he'd retained upon first sight. the great cajun bear regarded him with a heavy frown and a furrowed brow. the silver in his eyes darted over the frame of the youthful figure and he debated the worth of attempting a good ol' boxing match.
coming to the conclusion that it wasn't worth his time or his highly-sought-after energy, buckshot lowered his head into a position that would allow him to protect his throat and prowled toward the youngster. once closer, he drew his lip over a snaggly yellow canine and sneered openly. "don' waste mah time again, boy," he growled from within the back of his throat. a perfectly good sun nap had been ruined because a child couldn't keep his nose to himself. buck had never been fond of children anyway.

✴ The movement in the corner of his eye told Revui that the wolf was moving, and he got to his feet hastily enough. As he turned to face the oncoming figure he noted the lowered head and let out a soft huff of amusement, but that caught in his throat when he saw the flash of teeth and heard the accented threat. Revui's snout scrunched as he mimicked the look on the other beast's face; he let out a snarl of his own but it paled in comparison to the full timbre of the adult.
The boy was proud, perhaps too proud, and wasn't used to being talked to in such a way. He decided quickly he did not like it; beyond the beastly and the feral manner in which he interacted with the world, he felt something else, something like insult. But he knew he couldn't push much further beyond a few warning growls of his own — Buckshot was mighty when compared to everything he knew, and it would be best just to return to the mountain.
Revui wasn't eager to do that yet, though. He stalked off a few feet but retained that toothy grimace, his body rigid save for his tail which was raised defiantly.

the boy was too damn big for his own britches. buckshot didn't like it, and he wasn't about to endure much more of it. when the feral pup made a sound - almost laughing - the bear regarded him with a sharp expression and his physique transformed. in moments, buck had gone from a basking gator, to a prime and physically capable predator. revui made an expression to mimic buck's, but the cajun wasn't having any of that today.
he snapped quickly, aiming with yellowed fangs to latch against the muzzle of the annoying little thing. he did so with a rumbling growl - like distant thunder - from the back of his throat. there was little to lose when it came to combat with a child. buckshot wasn't worried that he would be overpowered when comparing their sizes. he also didn't give a flying fuck if he hurt a kid. they needed to learn sooner or later.

✴ The bear of a wolf didn't like having his buttons pushed and that was obvious, which is why Revui wanted to do it. He liked to push boundaries and he felt entitled to a certain level of behavior — but the other wolf reacted much faster and with much more vitriol than he was expecting. He felt something clip his snout, and while it briefly dazed him Revui's body went in to fight-or-flight mode; he was off like a silver bullet before the blood could spill from the fresh welt Buckshot had given him. That would teach him something, probably. For now he was racing for safety and would deal with the blow to his ego - and to his face - later.
