Her mothers summon was regarded with the lift of her head and the pricking of her ears. She was hunkered over one of her favorite furs, possessive over the object. Leta may have been due for a new one, but she did not recognize how worn and bedraggled it had become. She loved it; it smelled like her family, and when her mother or father was not near this object seemed to retain their scent like bones and other objects did not. She picked up the fur as a toddler would their baby blanket, and bounded out into the light after West and Clay, tripping over it as she went.

They had begun eating meat, though not like this. This was new, and exciting, and Leta dropped her toy and pranced over to the carcass with a wave of her tail. Not yet recognizing it as food quite yet, Leta observed her brothers with apt interest before glancing at her mother, who had begun to partake.

Leta did not yet understand that her mother was eating... not really, anyway. In fact, it looked like her mother was simply failing at picking up this thing, which must be a toy. Leta darted beside her and moved to pick it up, doing so only to let go so her mother could see. It's easy! Her warm gaze said—

What were her brothers doing? ...The same thing as mom, it seemed. Leta's brows furrowed, and she took another step toward the carcass, sniffing. It didn't smell bad... but as she tried her own hand at it, she found she could not tear and break the meat quite yet with her own teeth. Her teeth were still developing, and the young girl could not yet eat from this carcass. Leta, closer to her mothers mouth than she was her teats at this moment, instinctively knew where she must poke to get food and cause her mother to regurgitate. It would come to her what this all meant, but not this very second—no, this very second Leta hoped to poke the area she knew to with her nose.
