A frantic flapping of wings made her freeze, and she sat up on the spot of weird smelling grass she had been rolling in. A brown bird was bouncing around in the tall grass ahead, one of its wings dragging strangely on the ground. Jumping up from her spot, she bounded over to the creature. Her pursuit had not been at all quiet, and so about half way there, the bird had quickly hopped away. But, Monarch was tenacious, and she had her sights set on catching what would soon be her new toy. She picked up speed, moving as quickly as her little legs would allow, but the bird always seemed just out of her reach.
But, she frequently explored this area, and she knew that if she chased the bird in this direction long enough, then they would come up against the lake, hopefully giving her prey nowhere else to run.
It took some time, but finally, she caught a glimpse of the water in the distance, and with a smile, she sprinted forward again. As the bird neared the lake, it had no choice but to turn, giving the snowy pup just enough time to catch up and throw her front paws on the creature. Careful to keep the bird pressed to the ground, she settled down on her sternum and watched as it struggled in her hold. Now that she had caught it, she realized she wasn't really sure what to do with it.
