She had less and less patience for this guy the more his explanation dragged on, and it probably showed in the deepening of her scowl and the narrowing of her eyes. She couldn't be that much older than he was, and she would never do what he had done. But then maybe it wasn't his fault. She was torn between how angry she was that he had intruded on to what was theirs and the inkling of sympathy she felt at how childlike he seemed. Still, rules were rules, and he had broken one of the most fundamental rules of their kind. If they gave him too much of a break, he would learn nothing. The dead creature was nowhere near enough of a payment for his misdeed. 

It doesn't make up for the crime, she finally said. Not even close. It didn't matter at all to her that it had been an accident; in some ways, she felt like that was just as bad as if it had been intentional. Then she looked to Mal.
