Mal had been finding an abundance of very small things while hunting, but so was luck. He didn't want to entirely rely on the cache when he'd managed to catch his fill of voles and mice and had managed to stumble across an extra that might do better in someone else's stomach.
The den was usually quiet and still, and Mal did his best to not interrupt if Miriam was resting. She knew he'd be around (or had better by now), so he'd just do this until it came to a head. So he came and tucked the vole inside where he normally did, but as he did, he then saw that no, things weren't just still and quiet, but his -- he had to sniff to confirm -- son had broken away and was ambling his way. For a moment he froze, then took half a step forward, head lowered and tail starting to wag behind him, wondering if Asmoses would be as bold as Caerus, but letting the boy take the lead in what he wanted to do.
