augur bolted, tongue lolling in a laugh, away from the lead bull.

his eyes turned across the land in time to see the recoil of muscle that was buffalo hunter and the wounded bison. a startled whine broke from his throat as he noticed how she wove, her head moving.

he darted away from the lead bull. it pursued. augur's bark was low and warning and meant for buffalo hunter.

the bison began to stampede toward them both. the ground shook. he cut across the plain, tail flung high in a signal that she too should retreat. augur kept her in his sights, and if she did not move, he would slice through the grass toward her.
