He didn’t get much further before his tired legs began to tremble and he was forced to stop again. Out of nowhere, Atreus was overcome by a desire for his mother. He could hardly remember Arielle and her face was abstract in his mind’s eye, yet he yearned powerfully for maternal comfort.

His father’s booming exclamation caught him entirely off guard, causing Atreus to jump. He stopped just short of cowering, turning to face the man… and the music. Perhaps it wasn’t too late to beg for forgiveness.

But Atreus was young and dumb, his tongue wagging before he could stop himself as he retorted, I’m running away! I’m going to find mom! As the words left his mouth, tears pricked his eyes, much to his angry embarrassment.
