Someone called out to him; he didn't know whose voice it was, as the waves were louder; but the shape was feminine, and a dusky sort of brown, which was not familiar. The woman plunged in to the water without fear and was lifted free within moments; but in those moments Mojag felt real spikes of adrenaline, thinking she was going to drown.
He rushed up the beach to where she'd entered the water, but by the time he reached her she was laughing and on the sand again. The water rushed forward and nearly caught him across the back. He ducked and slapped the sand, feeling the pulse of it wash over his shoulders and under his belly, briefly lifting him and pushing him up the beach, and when Mojag found his feet again he was exhilarated.

You're not scared! He wasn't asking; she showed no fear of the waves at all, which made her very brave. Her laughter was infectious enough to make his worry slip a bit further away.
