He's looking for @Killdeer, but AW!
He had questions without answers, but who could he turn to? He worried Sialuk would dismiss him again. In fact, he worried every wolf would. Dad was the only one who had seemed interested in hearing about his encounter with the bear by the lake, and though he had been too anxious to share much with him when he'd first asked about what happened, Nashua sought out Killdeer now.
There were other things he had to share with him, too, like Nicte's absence and his want to go looking for his brother. Maybe it would have been best to broach each of these things as they'd started to weigh in him, but he was in the place he found himself now, and there was no way to change that.
Nashua decided to check the core of the village for him first. Surely his scent would lead out from there, if he wasn't there himself.

Eventually, Nashua found the one he was looking for—that being himself. Killdeer gave a broad grin to the boy and closed the gap between them, nuzzling the top of Nashua's head and resisting the urge to squeeze him tight.
The word slipped past his lips before it came to mind. He paused, his lips parted slightly. Not like it was bad, per se. . .
On the contrary. It felt as if his father was watching over him, and putting words into his mouth.
Just as he'd been Bronco's varmint, so too could Nashua be his.
How's it going, varmint?
