Sunny shrieked as the warmth of his mother left him, and he squirmed around in a hopeless attempt to find warmth. That is until another warm presence was noticed and he squirmed as fast as he fat baby limbs could squirm toward the body. Once their he latched onto the nearest teat and suckled, though no milk came out. He grunted and squeaked in frustration, suckling harder and when no milk came out he bit down on the useless nipple, unaware that to belonged to his father.

Frustrated and full of useless energy he slowly moved toward Grayday's paws and cralwed over them, the action taking alot more strength then he really had, and he soon lay sprawled across the large furry paws, blind eyes and useless nose bumping into the Adult male's chest repeatedly. What was this huge furry wall? He needed to get off these weird things he was sprawled upon! Beginning to panic, he yipped and shrieked, gurgling pathetically as he voiced his fear and helplessness to all who were close enough to hear.

He wasn't asleep. Sleep would never find him when the kids were around. Even now, he feared he might roll over and crush them, or shift his weight wrong. Accidents happened, and pups died very easily in this stage. Day was woefully aware of that fact. So he snoozed, eyes half-lidded in the darkness of the den. Sunny and @Dawn were kept closer to the fur of his belly for warmth, but the den itself still retained much of Amber's leftover heat. She'd left only a few minutes ago, and Day had moved from the mouth of the den to allow her to pass and then shuffled inside himself to watch over the tiny beings he'd had a hand - or, well... a part - in creating.

Day had looked his fill and then laid his head upon his paws, waiting. For them to do something. For Amber to get back. For a packmate to drop by. Anything, really. He was content, for the moment, to simply be with his children - but he wouldn't say no to a bit of excitment, either.

Except, he thought, eyes popping open, I wasn't expecting that sort of excitement. One of the kids was chomping down on one of his useless nipples (honestly, he forgot he even had them most of the time), seeming to be having a tough time of it, too. "No luck, cutie," he said, craning his head and determining that it was the boy who'd decided to chew on him. Day watched as he clambered around, mewling and raising havoc. Adorable.

When the boy came to his paws, blind and searching, Day took pity and reached his muzzle down. A few licks were smoothed over Sunny's back, and then the male tucked his son against his chest, under his chin. If he was hungry, there wasn't much Day could do, but if he just wanted attention, it was Dad to the rescue.

Sunny still gurgled his complaints to the world, but the soothing feeling of a wet tongue quieted down his unearthly shrieks. He was then moved gently against the wall of fluff where it was warm and he could hear a gently thrumming that reminded hm of the distant memory of the womb. Gurgles slowly turned into sleepy murmurs as the steady beating of Grayday's heart soothed him.

As he grew sleepier he curled against Grayday's chest, so that his ears were directly over his heart. He took a deep breath in and released it, falling into a content slumber. No dreams happened yet for he could not see nor hear anything yet, but his sleep was peaceful and energizing.

The boy settled. Love and pride welled up in the new father's chest. He kept Sunny close but looked back at Dawn, nosing over her and making sure she was warm as well. So far, she was easier than her brother, but Day wasn't sure he could expect that to last. All kids were trouble, at the end of the day, and he'd be ready to face it no matter what came.

He was still amazed that these little beings had come out of Amber's body, and that they carried something of himself in them already. They were his kids, and even know, he knew that he would always be connected to Amber in this way. She would always be the mother of his kids, always be family to him, even if she wasn't quite the love of his life.

Day loved her. He did. This common blood had sealed it for him like nothing else had. She'd brought these tiny gifts into existence, and for that, he loved her. Maybe one day, it would be enough.

Dawn had become complacent in her discomfort. She stilled when she was displeased, which was nearly every moment of every day, and slept plenty because it was her only reprieve. Blind and deaf, it seemed impossible to hate, but the youngest Ansbjørn-Ciel seemed to detest almost everything. Pressed against Grayday's body kept her soothed, but when he brushed his cold nose across her back, she stirred into hateful squirms and squeaks of protest. Just keep me warm, nothing else!

Her brother, on the other hand, was a curious and wandering sort. In Dawn's tiny thrashing, she realized that he was no longer beside her— having been too distracted by her father's all-consuming warmth to notice at first— and it made her squirm more fiercely in a direction to locate him. Unfortunately, she started roly-polying her way towards Grayday's hind legs, the opposite way of Sunny's journey.

As soon as one settled, the other one was unhappy. Day made a soft sound of amusement under his breath as Dawn began to chirrup in her angry little voice.

"I gotchya, sweet pea," he murmured, plucking her from her journey south and delivering her onto his forelimbs to huddle against his chest like her brother. "There's nothing down there for you guys," he informed them, tucking Dawn close to his chest. "You'll have to wait for Mama to get back if you're hungry."

He felt the shift in Grayday's weight as he moved to pick up Dawn, and growled in protest. Once the body of his sister was placed next to him, he chirped in greeting and shoved his nose against her face, snuffling with quick eager breathes almost as if he were checking to see if she were alright. Satisfied he hurumphed once, heaving as big of a sigh as he could manage before falling silent once more. He was content with this easy-going carefree life.
