She looked away, closing her eyes as a hard swallow moved down her throat once more. Somewhere deep inside her hormone-addled brain, the logical part of her screamed that his response made no sense. She picked up on other's subtle emotional cues everyday; how could she have missed that he felt that way about her? The burning need fighting for control of her body combated the sound reasoning, suggesting that maybe she had just not wanted to see it. Normal, clearly thinking Speedy would have shied away from anything that could damage their friendship or her place in the pack. She felt even more confused and suddenly very close to just relinquishing her control over the situation; she was slowly drowning in the battle raging inside her, and she just wanted to be able to breath again.

You don't mean that, she said softly, gaze finding him again, this time searching his face for any indication that his admission was true and not spoken out of the heat of the moment. What made things even worse was that, in her current state, she wanted it to be true, and if he confirmed as much, her body would take it and run, finally having the leverage it needed to push her to do what she knew deep within her heart would irrevocably change everything, and not in a good way.
