set after banishment. assuming @Mei followed??

They were on their own now.

@Mei and Huā had fled the plateau together. Had searched for Ying, but the trail was lost. Huā had hid her tears from her sister, eyes wet silently. They had continued to the isle. She knew it called to all of them- or at least, she thought it had. But it felt wrong to be here without Ying.

She turns back to Mei, face solemn. 美... 现在什么? Her tone pained. She felt lost. Her family was all showing up, it wouldn't be long, she thought, till they all lived together. But how could she do this without the third sister by her side?

when the others slept, mei wept, battered by the wave of emotions inside of her. they were finally free from the plateau, but ying had disappeared. mei could only assume she was angry with them. did she no longer see them as family?

this wasn't what she wanted.

nonetheless, she remained strong for those who remained. 我们应该集中精力保护岛屿。颖知道在哪里可以找到我们, she said coldly. part of her was angry with ying for abandoning them without a word. what was going through her mind? would she rather have stayed with the plateau pirates? mei loathed that she couldn't even ask. but she had other things to worry about now. even so, she hoped ying would soon return in one piece.

Mei was holding together well, from what Huā had seen. She hadn't seen her sister weep. The mermaid wondered, perhaps, if that religion of hers was such an aid, that it could help her manage her emotions so well. Perhaps she herself should learn of it sometime too. Sje was not closed off to the idea.

Mei suggests they secure the borders, and Huā nods. She agreed- they could not spend forever looking for Ying. She knew the nuvujak could roam far and wide, and searching for her would end a waste of time. The girl could be anywhere. Better to create a place that would draw Ying back to them, by establishing their home.

Quietly, then, without another word. She begins to walk inland and inland. She hopes to properly determine the point of high tide upon the beach and mark just beyond here, so as to ensure the borders would not wash away so easily.

wordlessly, huā agreed & seemed eager to do just as she said right away. mei mirrored her, marking the inner reaches of the beach once in a while. silence grew between them, & she had no interest in breaking it, solemn as it was. instead, she absorbed herself in the task to forget about her troubles as she often did.

we can keep this thread short if you want since not much is happening?

Once she reaches the point where the sand is as dry as Egypt and shells have been washed up in a line, she stops. Here was the highest spot of the tide, and so just a few feet beyond, she marks a border. Moving down the line like this, marking every few yards. Huā is careful not to stray too far from her sister, and keeps her twin in sight out the corner of her eye.
