Ruenna was not to be disappointed.

The child performed a precious, clumsy little pounce, much to Rue's delight. The child began to gnaw, and Rue gently dropped a paw down onto the free end of the bone, intending to hold it steady for the little chewer.

For the briefest of moments, the child turned her attention to Rue's countenance, and the Redfern's breath hitched. It was the first time that she had met the gaze of any of the children, and she was wholly unprepared for how special the moment would feel.

The spell was broken in a matter of seconds, as the child's attention returned to her toy. The child began to tug. Rue's tail waved softly, sweeping across the dirt of the den floor. With any luck, this little one would continue to show such passion and drive as she grew up. She would need it, Rue imagined.

Rue's paw remained heavily upon her end of the bone, increasing the pressure as the child tugged harder, ensuring that the bone remained immobile. She purred out a low, rousing growl, hoping to spur the child into an even more spirited tug.
