a turbulence came to the air as old as time. qiao listened to its whisperings, dark in thought.

every empire had a rise and an fall. some she had witnessed birthed, others had witnessed ruined -- and in every one, qiao had left before she too was pulled under alongside its citizens.

it was time to go. her hide would not join the dozens in this dying epoch.

to @Sayf, qiao left a talisman -- a rounded femur of elk intricate with the knotted designs of rat teeth. there was powerfulness to this trinket -- and it was perhaps the kindest thing qiao had ever done.

to @Leshen she left the remains of her meat cache; may it serve him better on the road than it had here, rotting in akashingo's crypt-like red halls.

she hoped to find @Ephraim in her travels -- he and his taotaomona would make a safeguarding ally.

qiao left akashingo's halls under the quiet wing of dawn. sunlight dappled her spine as she took along the path, headed east to a new empire where she would grow once again, fat as a tick on blood rich and unstopping.
