Everything hurt.  She sobbed, gasping for breath around her swelling tongue and burning muzzle as she sprinted away.  All she could see was Wraen collapsing, dying because of her stupid decisions.  Dad was right; she wasn't ready.  All of her confidence in her decision to come here was shot, and she couldn't bear to look at the expression on Terence's face when he realized she was why this happened.

Eventually her breath caught and she couldn't find it.  Choking, she stopped, hacking around a tongue that was alarmingly almost blocking her airway. She couldn't run any more.  Still sobbing, she cast desperately about, and made for a tree with a promising shadow in the roots.  Scrabbling, she crawled in, digging away so that she could hide and gasp for air unseen and unbothered.  She shouldn't have left, but she couldn't go back now.
