He doesn't know if she really understands, but maybe she doesn't need to; maybe this is the best they can get. He swallows hard past the lump in his throat as he watches her go, rooted to the spot. For once, he doesn't run. All he can do is stand in place, watching the last place he saw her for what feels like forever — hours, maybe. He wishes he could follow her. He wishes he could go home — but that home doesn't exist anymore.
